Anger escalates in any system that does not tell the truth.

The problem isn’t what we say.

It’s what we don’t say.

The problem isn’t what we do.

It’s what we don’t do.

Everyone is angry.

And everyone is nice.

Very nice.

Too nice.

Which leads to…

Consequences.

There is an undercurrent.

Everyone feels it.

But no one talks about it.

You have 2 choices.

The start of every workweek fills you with dread. You have a deep sense of futility and frustration. Something has got to give.

What to do?

  1. Quit your job and find something else to do in the firm belief that it is this place that is the problem and that…

Too many rules.

“Make your rules of life brief, yet so as to embrace the fundamentals…” ~ Marcus Aurelius

You have created rules that govern how you perceive, and in some cases respond to, just about everything in your life.

You have rules that determine when you allow yourself to be happy,

Or…

Do you notice what you notice?

Do you notice what’s going right?

Do you notice all the things that are working?

Do you notice the people who are getting it done?

Do you notice what you notice?

The reason it is important to notice what you notice,

is that you’ll soon note that what you are noticing

is closely tied to what you are believing.

You’ll see what you believe.

So if you want to know what you really believe;

as opposed to what you say you believe,

Then try to notice what you notice.

You are not your job. Your job is not your life.

You hate your job and hate how it controls your life and affects your relationships.

You love your job and hate how it controls your life and affects your relationships.

When you consider your work, what role does it play in your life?

Does a difficult day at work spill…

You will never know.

You will never know all the truth.

You will never have all the answers.

You will never be completely certain.

Can you learn to live with that?

Can you stop living as though you should?

The alternative to certainty isn’t fear and doubt.

It’s curiosity.

When you are certain the world becomes small.

When you are curious, the world expands.

Try filling your day with fewer periods,

And more question marks.

My thoughts on being human.

You can’t stop the thoughts or impulses,

You just don’t have to believe them,

Or do what they tell you.

If you wait, you may hear another voice.

One that speaks softly,

A deeper truth,

Or a higher aspiration.

The secret is to wait,

And listen.

The subtle leadership skill that makes a huge difference

Many leaders I know get mired in an endless stream of transactions and never learn to see or harness the power of connections.

We are at our best when we creating connections. In fact, as noted in the title of this post, I think it is one of the key…

A Celebration of our Connection

Today, is July 5.

A few fireworks are still going off tonight in my neighborhood. Lots of flags still adorn local yards. Yesterday we celebrated the creation of the USA. The beginning of a grand experiment that is still unfolding.

We’re pretty lucky to be living in a county that…

Let that set you free.

All of us are creatures of a day; the rememberer and the remembered alike. — Marcus Aurelius

Work long enough and the moment comes when you must reckon with the reality that all the time and energy you are investing or have invested is for…
